There is No Devil - Sophie Lark
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ .5 Pros: still love Mara, love Cole, love the story
Cons: awkward/weird smut, slower pacing
TW: Murder, Blood, Sexual content, Child abuse, Alcoholism, Pedophilia, Drug abuse
The time has finally come for me to discuss the second installation of the Sinners series, There is No Devil by Sophie Lark.
If you've read my review of There are No Saints, you know that I love this series and I was all in. The smut was good, the characters were likable (even the ones I hated, I loved hating them.) The story moved itself along with ease and the smut was pretty good.
I don't have as much to say about this one because it just didn't hit like the first one. Don't get me wrong, it is a solid continuation but a LOT of the content could have been edited just to make the story a little tighter. The entire first half of the book was filler and the plot didn't really gain speed until a bit after the halfway mark. Nonsense.
I enjoyed the rivalry between Shaw and Cole but I wish there had been more done with it. There was very little gore in this book which I was disappointed about. I mean, when you sign on for serial killer smut, you expect violence and sex!
Speaking of sex, this happened “Eat my pussy, Daddy … send me into outer space …” you. better. stop. When did Cole become Daddy? What are we up to?!
I still enjoyed myself because 2 things can be true at once. I liked this book, I wanted more from this book.
...I may read the whole series again for research :P
Also, please enjoy my GoodReads review and follow me there if you'd like! This review is a great summary of all the things I plan to discuss at length below.
