So a few months ago, I laid out a very simple, short list of books I wanted to try and prioritize reading this year. Some have been on my list for way too long and its just time to finally read them, others are newer things I’m excited about. Whatever the case, I am happy to report that I have made some progress! I also have a spoiler free recap video featuring all of my reading for the first 3 months of 2024 in the works but in the meantime, let’s cross some of these off my list together, shall we?
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches
We chose this title for our April read in Weirdo Book Club so it is getting read, FINALLY! It has already gotten some positive feedback from those of us who were really ambitious this month so that is exciting!
The Warm Hands of Ghosts
I finished this in early February and it was awesome. Katherine Arden is just a really talented story teller and this book officially started me into my historical fiction era!
My Dark Vanessa
My god, this one was a tough read. Not craft wise, it was very well written but emotionally, it was tough. It had me feeling a lot of emotions at once and ultimately, it ended in tears for me. It hurt me just like I expected it to, like I wanted it to.
Normal People
I DNF’d this bitch so fast when I realized that it doesn’t have quotations marks around the dialogue sections. Like, what is your problem, Sally, I am sincerely asking. If you don’t have a problem personally, then maybe I did something to you? I don’t know. I have accepted that I am just not “that girl” who reads and derives pleasure from Sally Rooney. It is an official DNF but I tried… did Sally though?
Funny Story
I got the early copy of this and I am so glad and thankful that I did because it was almost as good as Book Lovers and I had a good time with it. I have a mini review and vlog coming soon so this will be the spot where a future link will live. Stay tuned!
