My June Snapshot
From movies to shows, albums, games and books, here is a snapshot of all the forms of media that made my heart happy in June.
So full disclosure, this is usually a series that is posted exclusively on my Bindery page and until now, it has only been shared in blog form. Today, you get a sneak peak at not only the post but the video I made to accompany it!
I think I will try to do videos for each month going forward, it’s just a low stakes way of making the posts a bit more fun. If you like me, my content and what I do, I urge you to consider joining my Bindery newsletter, Boneyard Picnic. I post more consistently there and depending on which tier you join, you get a ton of bonus content from me!
ENOUGH BLABBING! Let’s talk media. Watch the video or scroll on to read the blog!
I feel like I blinked and the month flew by. My kids and I are not happy at how quickly the summer is passing but time waits for no one, right? Enjoy the days while you have them! Let's get into the stuff that have been making my days better lately.
🎧 LISTENING TO:
Yes, the Sleep Token nonsense continues. This is the 3rd month in a row Sleep Token has made the list, it’s relentless. I even made a video about my love for the newest album because I simply couldn't take it anymore. It is currently only available to paid members of my Bindery page thanks to the copyright issues (blah) but hey, bonus content!
The Ricky Gervais Show - YouTube
This is a comfort listen for me, in the wee hours of the night when I can't sleep. Thankfully someone put together all of the episodes into a playlist so I can turn them on and just close my eyes and occasionally giggle at the buffoonery.
Hearththrob by Tegan & Sara - Spotify | iTunes
One of my favorite albums that I just completely forgot about until last week. Funny how that happens, huh? I'm glad I remembered it though because it was awesome to listen to it and go back to a time when I first heard it.
📖 READING:
Does It Hurt? - GIFTED | PHYSICAL
Yes, still because I am taking breaks when I need to and BOY do I need them. So far, I am 8 chapters in and it is stupid as expected. As stupid as Haunting Adeline? Not sure yet, stay tuned. I have 2 vlogs exclusively available for paying members of my Bindery.
Vlog 1 | Vlog 2
Wicked Pursuit - PURCHASED | PHYSICAL
This is a major disappointment so far. I was excited to try more from Katee Robert but this Red Riding Hood retelling that is dedicated to HD Carlton is not doing it for me. Shocking, I'm sure. Aside from the dedication, the relationships and characters are all over the place. Are we in ancient Greece? Are we in Once Upon a Time? I don't know and I'm already 50% of the way in. How can I be halfway done and still not know wtf is going on?
I have a Bindery exclusive reading vlog coming for this too so stay tuned!
What My Bones Know - LIBRARY LOAN | AUDIOBOOK
Incredible memoir about the complexities of dealing with complex and prolonged trauma. I think the author did such a great job chronicling her struggles in such a forthcoming way. The audiobook even included recordings from her actual therapy sessions and it just really connected me to her story even more. It also resonated with me because I, too, have complex PTSD.
Iron Widow - PURCHASED FROM LIBRO | AUDIOBOOK
I was commissioned to read and review this and I have to say a giant "thank you" for this. It is SO good, I am loving it so far. It is not a book I would ever grab for myself and this serves as a great lesson to not box yourself in too tightly! I love it and can't wait to review it for y'all.
📼 WATCHING:
The chaos of Degrassi is part of my zeitgeist in a way that I can't explain. Naturally, I return to it every now and then just to feel something. Rage, pity, secondhand embarrassment, etc. All the emotions are there, sometimes within the same 30 minute episode. I remember when I first saw this show pop up on our Direct TV guide. My grandma had just splurged for this service and I used to sneak and watch the show, knowing full well that trying to explain Paige's character arc would not go over well.
This 80's romance is one of my desert island movies, in case you were ever wondering. It is also the first review in a new series that I'm calling the Summer of Cinema, where I deep dive review movies that mean something to me. Click here to watch the review!
My husband and I went to see this a few nights ago to celebrate 16 years of marriage (holy hell) It was fun but... I don't know. I made a review! It was unscripted and just recalling the movie I had just watched and giving my reaction and thoughts along the way. For now, it is only accessible for paying members of my Bindery.
🎮 PLAYING:
Stardew Valley (2016)
Yes... still. I have recently been eying another game because a bunch of you keep tagging me about it...
Date Everything (2025)
This is a dating sim wherein which you can - you guessed it - date everything. Your vacuum, your books, your couch, your lamp. DATE IT ALL. I haven't set up my streaming spot yet so I haven't bought it or played it yet. I have also been intentionaly avoiding any coverage of the game because I want to protect my first time experience with it as best I can. Let me know if you want me to play it though, it might speed me up on the whole acquisition, setting up thing.
Also worth mentioning is…
Raptor Boyfriend (2021)
I have been playing this via livestreams for members of my Bindery for a few months now. I am currently on a break while I work on setting up my console, camera, etc. but please know that it has been a LOT of fun playing this game with yall. It is a high school romance dating sim that every now and then, presents me (and you) with choices that will shape how the game turns out. Not only is it interactive for you, it is ridiculous and fun to play and make choices together!
Well, I hope this was fun for you! Along with monthly posts like this, other exclusives include early, uncensored and ad free access to rant reviews, bonus videos, reading vlogs, a weekly newsletter, access to both the community Discord and book club Discord and the ability to request me to review certain things! Lots of fun stuff happening on Bindery, click here to check it out!
